The Communications Workers of America (AFL-CIO), representing more than 65,000 public and private sector workers in New Jersey, announced its strong endorsement of Frank Lautenberg for re-election to the United States Senate.

"We are proud to make this endorsement of one of the best friends working people in New Jersey have every had in the U.S. Senate,"  said Chris Shelton, Vice President, CWA District One.  "During his very distinguished and effective tenure as U.S. Senator, Frank Lautenberg has proven himself to be one of the strongest and most steadfast supporters of working families.  He has compiled an exemplary 95% record of voting in favor of working families according to CWA's scorecard, "Shelton added.

PAID FAMILY LEAVE
Bill Passed

We were successful!!! When Labor pulls together, things get done!  Assembly Bill A-873, sponsored  by Assemblyman Albano and Assemblywoman Oliver (Paid Family Leave) passed the Assembly.  The bill passed by a vote of 46-30, mostly along party lines with Democrats supporting and Republicans opposing
When the bill was heard in Committee on March 10, 2008, small businesses with less than 50 employees were successful in getting the Committee to amend A-873 to exempt them from the law.  That amendment was defeated on the floor of the Assembly, mostly along party lines with Democratic support.
This bill now needs Governor Corzine’s signature to become law, as it has already passed the Senate.
